The Feedback
The Slum Survivor team shared their experiences in the slum at the gathering on Sunday 28th October. You can listen to this again by clicking below. It is also not too late to sponsor them if you haven't done so yet. If you feel you would like to donate some sponsorship then please contact Aimee Hayter aimee.hayter@gmail.com
What was it?
Slum Survivor was an event run by Churches all over the UK over the same weekend to raise money and awareness of the conditions in which around a billion people (one sixth of the world's population) live. Life in slums is so alien to our experience of everyday normality. Running water, electricity, employment, schools and other basic services are rarely present. Disease and crime are usually rife. This is however life for a mass of people. Real people that God loves.
What did it involve?
Slum Survivor is designed as a simulation experience to help those taking part to connect with the lives of those living in slums across the world. This involved building and living in a temporary shelter, eating a limited diet and facing tough challenges and choices. They also spent time in prayer, Bible study, learning about life in slums and connecting with God's heart for justice. The participants in Slum Survivor were sponsored to take part with the money raised going to the work of Soul Action partner projects.
