Jan's Story

By the time I was 16 years old I was suffering from partial deafness.  It was such a nuisance not to be able to join in the girlie gigglings overnight at sleep overs,  to hear the voice of the teacher in class unless I was looking directly at her, not to hear the sweet nothings which I hoped were being whispered in my ear by my first boyfriends.

The doctors told me that I was producing extra hard wax in my ears and I would need an operation to clean them out (ordinary syringing wouldn't help).  The operation was very successful, the world seemed very loud ....but it only lasted 3 weeks before my ears were bunged up again.  I had two operations but the same happened again and I was told I would just have to live with partial hearing and focus on the lip reading to help me.

I believed in God and knew that He could heal people so one day I went up to my bedroom and prayed a simple prayer asking God to heal me.  I went downstairs and announced to my parents that God would heal me - but I was still deaf! They didn't want to upset my young faith and didn't want me to be disappointed and they didn't know what to say.

Over the next 3 weeks my ears slowly cleared until I could hear perfectly.  On my next check up at the doctor I was still clear and was told it was amazing and to come back in 6 months because my ears were bound to be bad again by then.  Twice I went back for check ups and everything was fine.

That was 30 years ago and my hearing is still normal (for my age!!!!)  The only hearing problems I have to cope with is the deafness that lands on the household when the rugby is on the TV and I want help in the kitchen!

I know that it was God that healed me.
