Freshers at The Journey

Studentdom is a whole new season to your life's journey, you've left home, travelled round the world, worked to earn money and now you've arrived at university.  With a few important choices of purpose at the start you can set yourself up for the best years of your life so far... a real adventure of opportunity amongst the challenges of being a student.

Preparing for university - a few tips to get you started on a good footing before you arrive at uni.

  • Fusion student link-up - get connected with the national student movement Fusion who resource Churches like The Journey working with students across the UK.
  • Ready for Anything - Fusion cell notes to resource and help you and friends get prepared before you set off to university life. There are also annual preparing for uni days early September you can book to come along on. More details at  www.fusion.uk.com
  • the return - The Journey's weekend before the new academic year begins... all welcome.

The Journey Freshers - below is a selection of things to look out for as a Fresher when you arrive.

  • the welcome CD - a complimentary CD to introduce you to The Journey and help you begin to discover more about who we are and and what we do.
  • the Fusion cells - student small groups that meet on campus and create 24/7 mobile communtiy.
  • the lowdown - regular weekly emails, website login access, holiday newsletters and occasional texts to keep you posted with all the latest happenings at The Journey.
  • the socials - organised times to gather together and meet new people; The Monkey's Forehead, Barley Mow, house parties, Union nights, Sports, Cinema, Meals, Medicine, Fireworks, Christmas party  etc.
  • the Student team - a group of students from The Journey dedicated to making you feel welcome and at home.  Whether you want to grab a coffee, ask questions, find out about cells, be involved with a social, pray with someone or meet a student to walk with you to the gathering... please do get intouch.  freshers@thejourney.org.uk
  • the gatherings - these are times when The Journey community gather together as Church, we meet on Sunday afternoons 3-5pm in the hall at the methodist hall, victoria street in the Green (for the first month or so there will be someone to meet you at North Tower and walk down at 2:45pm each Sunday).  Our gatherings are fairly relaxed with a cafe-style set-up, with space to meet people, interactive speakers to discover more of who God is, creative musical worship to encounter Jesus and prayer in the power of the Holy Spirit to become more of who we are created to be.
